Chelmsford Essex

A regional center boasting a population of more than 150,000 people, Chelmsford is a terrific opportunity to see the UK away from London…but without being too far from London. An express train gets you to Liverpool Street in about half an hour, offering the best of all worlds.

Chemlsford itself was established in 1199 by King John and has been a major hub ever since. In some ways, it’s like an well-appointed suburb of a major city, with cinemas and restaurants and other entertainment that you would expect. A major attraction is the antiques market, which is elaborate and extensive and draws in the discerning and monied from far off.

But despite an excellent cathedral and ancient roots, Chelmsford is a sporty and active town with all sorts of opportunities for people who enjoy an active lifestyle. Public green spaces and terrific sports facilities ensure a wide range of activities are available.

A variety of restaurants, nightclubs, sports centres, theatres and museums serve the local community and bring in tourists from all over. The Riverside Ice and Leisure Centre provides a wide range of facilities and it alone draws more than 750,000 visitors a year. Chelmsford can also boast of the Civic and Cramphorn theatres and the Essex County Cricket Club.

Hylands Estate just to the west of Chelmsford is a former country house and parkland, that hosts many events such as the annual V music festival. And all of this is contained in a town that is just a hop skip and a jump from central London, offering you the best of all worlds.
